Living with a host family, I’ve gotten to try some new Georgian foods. Here are some of my favorites:
Kompot: It’s just canned fruit, same as in America, but usually served as a drink. Awesome!
Jami: Fruit preserved in honey or syrup–the figs are particularly good.
T’olma: Georgia’s variation of stuffed vegetables. Spiced meat and rice in a cabbage leaf.
Bread with butter/margarine and adjika: tastes almost like Mexican food! A partial cure for food-related homesickness.
Tsitsaka-Georgian pickled peppers. Similar to the canned banana peppers in the US, but a little different.
